Tango launches XGS-PON and WiFi6, two new fiber technologies

Tango launches XGS-PON and WiFi6, two new fiber technologies, firmly placing Luxembourg among Europe’s connectivity pioneers.

Bertrange, March 2, 2021 – We live in increasingly connected homes, with the current context accentuating the need for efficient performance. Tango is therefore proud to be the first operator in Luxembourg to offer its customers two new technologies to serve its fiber offerings: XGS-PON with speeds reaching up to 2Gbit/s, at least twice as fast as the current maximum speed; and WiFi 6, to secure an optimal WiFi experience for your home.

The latest analysis of the”Worldwide broadband speed league” published by cable.co.uk1 ranked Luxembourg fifth in the world in terms of Internet connection. Building on this recognition, and reputation as the first operator to make 1Gbit/s fiber widely available in Luxembourg, Tango is once again the first to offer its customers a brand new fiber technology that is twice as fast, with speeds of up to 2Gbit/s. An innovation that further boosts the country’s connectivity leadership. 114,000 homes, or 40% of the country, are already eligible for this new solution, which Tango is continuing to deploy.

But what does this increased power and capacity mean for customers? An even richer experience, meeting the growing need for connectivity. Today, the right fiber connection with a very high-speed broadband is crucial given the rise in working from home (videoconferencing, large file sharing, etc.), the explosion of online gaming and the use of streaming platforms, the number of objects connected simultaneously in the home (smartphones, computers, tablets, smart TVs, consoles, home automation, etc.) and increasingly bandwidth-hungry uses (4K).

Another first in Luxembourg: the launch of the brand new Wi-Fi 6 technology to secure an optimal WiFi experience for your home. With its new WiFi 6 modem, Tango promises better performance and greater connection stability, even when a large number of devices are connected simultaneously, a noticeable improvement in WiFi speeds and a reduction in the battery consumption of connected devices.

“As a pioneer of new technologies and having made 1Gbit/s fiber more accessible, we are pleased to be the first to offer our customers a fiber connection of up to 2Gbit/s. This is an important first step that puts the country up there among the technological leaders. What’s more, we are also convinced that the arrival of the WiFi 6 will bring about a real improvement in connectivity in the home,” said Luis Camara, Chief Consumer Market Officer, Tango.
