Groundwater resources in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg are limited. A supplementary supply of surface water is necessary to guarantee the country's long-term drinking water supply. The lake water undergoes a seven-stage treatment process at the Eschdorf treatment plant. At the end of the treatment process, the water meets stringent drinking water quality standards. It is distributed via the Eschdorf reservoir to SEBES water users.
